This article is a study on the climatic phenomenon heat islands, that occurs mainly in cities with high degree of urbanization. Heat island would be the increased temperature of the urban region in relation to the rural region, and less urbanized areas. This present study uses the city of Vitoria, capital of Espirito Santo state, as a field of investigation survey. Through the tools of remote sensing, the goal of the research is to analyze during two periods of the year, the seasons of winter and summer, the city of Vitória through Landsat TM satellite images, courtesy of the US Geological Survey. Through the satellite Landsat 8 10 Band, was made the thermal mapping of the city of Vitória in order to get the temperature data to perform a comparative analysis and so study the climatic phenomenon heat islands. The satellite image captures the thermal energy radiated/emitted by the surface swept by the sensor thermal infrared. The image on the winter season was recorded on the date of 08/23/2014, and the image recorded in the summer is the day 01/03/2015. With the image processing can analyze the results obtained. It is observed through the thermal fields the presence of several heat islands in the city of Vitória, present both in the summer and in the winter season. With the work, also made it possible to understand how it behaves the temperature in the city during the two seasons.
